PW1100G Criticism Not Supported By Facts, Says Pratt

In recent weeks, Pratt & Whitney has been increasingly vocal in insisting that its powerplant offering for the Airbus A320neo has overcome early teething troubles and has succeeded in making a strong entry-into-service over the first six months of 2016. At media briefings held at its U.S. headquarters in early June, the engine maker found it hard to conceal frustration at what it views as overstated criticism by customers. In Pratt & Whitney’s view, the facts speak for themselves: it expects to have delivered 200 examples of the PurePower PW1000 Geared Turbofan (GTF) family by the end of 2016, and the majority of these will be the PW1100G turbofan for the A320neo. According to #engineering vice president Tom Prete, all production engines now being delivered include a fix to resolve “rotor […]

Benefits of Virtual Design and Construction to Civil Construction Projects

The ability to visualize the built environment is critical to the design and construction of civil construction projects. While 3D simulation is widely used in the design phase of infrastructure projects, it is still gaining momentum in the construction phase. Advancements in 3D and 4D simulation technology, however, now make it possible for project stakeholders to better visualize the construction process of complex buildings and infrastructure projects. This advanced visual communication provides a valuable asset to the building design process and is one that civil #engineering projects should adopt. More construction project sites now use virtual design and construction simulation. Virtual simulation provides a 3D and 4D computer-generated representation and offers a very realistic view of buildings, bridges, infrastructure, and other graphical models. These models can deliver many benefits to […]

Review: Could this be the ‘Beginning of the end’ for Diabetes?

Given the rates of Diabetes reaching ‘epidemic-proportions’, we figured it was time to have a better overview of Biotech’s progress in the field. And with some serious advances having been made in the treatment of the disease, we have to ask – how much further can Biotech go in the treatment of Diabetes?  It is important to note the various complications which can arise from the disease, which has a series of serious co-morbidities. These can range from increased risk to infection, cardiovascular disease and even neuropathies (nerve damage across multiple tissues) – each of which present their own challenges to tackle. So here’s a review of recent developments, to include developments in Insulin, the growing MedTech field and how Cell Therapy is also tackling the disease. Diabetes complications affected organs. Diabetes affects nerves kidneys […]

Meet Viv, Your Next Generation Recruiter – Social Talent

The robots aren’t just coming, they’re here! However, technology need not be a threat to our jobs, in fact, it can open up our potential to take on much more interesting challenges, the kind of challenges that only a human can do (for now). Google is essentially a robot. Just think of all the things you can now do because Google exists. Previously you’d have had to research everything in a library or outsource to external researchers. With access to so much data, anything is possible. With the right robot doing the tasks that CAN be automated, sourcers can work on being truly strategic and recruiters can really start to partner with the business and not just the hiring manager. Would this first iteration be perfect? Of course not! But […]
