Aerojet to develop advanced electric propulsion system for Nasa’s deep space missions – Aerospace Technology

#Nasa has selected Aerojet Rocketdyne to design and develop an #advanced electric propulsion system that is expected to advance the US’s commercial space capabilities and enable deep space exploration missions, including the robotic portion of its Asteroid Redirect Mission (ARM). The electric propulsion system will developed under the Advanced Electric Propulsion System (AEPS) deal, which is a 36-month cost-plus-fixed-fee contract with a performance incentive and total value of $67m. Compared with the existing chemical propulsion technology, the new advanced electric propulsion technology could increase spaceflight transportation fuel efficiency by ten times, as well as more than double the thrust capability compared to current electric propulsion systems. Nasa space technology mission directorate (STMD) associate administrator Steve Jurczyk said: “Through this contract, Nasa will be developing advanced electric propulsion elements for initial […]

FDA sets new limits on use of immediate-release opioids – FiercePharma

After years of criticism that they were not doing enough to fight the growing abuse of opioids, federal authorities are piling on new guidelines and warnings for the powerful painkillers. The #FDA is the latest with box warnings about what it called the serious risks of misuse, abuse, addiction, overdose and death. The agency said that because of the danger that patients can get addicted to drugs like #oxycodone, hydrocodone and morphine, labels would make it clear that immediate-release versions should only be given for severe pain when nonaddictive drugs are not enough. The FDA will provide new cautions about dosing and “a warning not to abruptly stop treatment in a physically dependent patient.” Immediate-release versions make up the vast majority of prescriptions for the painkillers. The labels also will […]
